OSU Extension, Sandusky County along with North Central Agricultural Research Station will be hosting a Vegetable Workshop Series, the 2nd Thursday of each month: April - October. The workshop will begin at 7:00am with a catered breakfast and industry updates, followed with a featured guest speaker and ending with a field walk and networking. Attend and learn ways to increase family communication and strategies to successfully transfer management skills and the farm’s business assets from one generation to the next. The effects of Ohio’s unprecedented oil and gas boom will be seen far beyond the 1,600 horizontal wells now dotting the landscape in eastern Ohio. Authorities say the pipelines that will crisscross the state and other new infrastructure required to make use of the state’s newfound energy riches will likely have a presence in every county in the Buckeye State. In addition, solar, wind and other alternative sources of energy have become a strong presence in some parts of the state in recent years.

Cooking Matters is a six lesson program that teaches low income individuals cooking skills, basic nutrition, and low cost shopping skills. Look for more information in the coming months.

Join Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Educator Katie LaPlant for a Food Preservation Workshop. The workshop will be held on Wednesday July 29th from 6-8pm at the Sandusky County Health Department conference room. This is a FREE event for those who are new to preservation or who want a refresher. Registration is not required, but appreciated. OSU Extension, along with the Clyde High School Vocational Agriculture program will be offering a tractor safety training and certification course this summer, at the Ohio State University’s North Central Agricultural Research Station on 53 just south of Fremont. The course will take place June 8, 9 and 10 from 8 a.m. to noon, with additional independent study hours for the students on the first two days.
