Sandusky County is a strong diverse agricultural area. Of the 261,888 acres in Sandusky County approximately 199,000 acres are cultivated or are in production agriculture. This represents about seventy six percent of the total area. All major crops are grown including corn, soybeans, and wheat plus a wide array of specialty crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage and other vegetable crops. Being located just south of Lake Erie Sandusky County's climate also allows for peaches to be grown.
According to the Ohio Ag Statistics for 2005 the number of farms in the county is approximately 790 with the average size being 246 acres. Total land in production is estamated at 194,000 acres. Average cash receipts per farm is $91,586.
